A. Pengertian
Elliptical construction adalah penghilangan nsur-unsur yang sama dalam kalimat dari penggabungan dua kalimat. Dalam pengerjaan kalimat elliptic, perlu diperhatikan tentang kata kerja bantu / auxiliary yaitu :

B. Pola penggabungan
1. Positif → so, too (juga)
| ... and so + aux + S ... and S + aux + too |
Contoh :
- Eko is handsome + Yuda is handsome
→ Eko is hansome and Yuda is too
→ Eko is handsome and so is Yuda
- He borrowed my book + She borrowed my book
→ He borrowed my book and she didi too
→ He borrowed my book and so did she
2. Negatif → neither, either (juga)
| … and neither + aux + S … and S + aux + not either |
Contoh :
- Eko is not handsome + Yuda is not handsome
→ Eko is not handsome and Yuda isn’t either
→Eko is not handsome and neither is Yuda
- He didn’t borrow my book + She didn’t borrow my new book
→ He didn’t borrow my book and she didn’t either
→ He didn’t borrow my book and neither did she
3. Berlawanan → but / while ( tetapi / sedangkan )
| S 1 + V I + but / while + S 2 + do / does + not S 1 + V II + but / while + S 2 + did + not S 1 + Aux (verb) + but / while + S 2 +aux + not S 1 + aux not (verb) + but / while + S 2 + aux |
Contoh :
· I go to the market but she doesn’t
· She returned my book last week but he doesn’t
· Iam a handsome boy but he isn’t
· Tini cannot swim but rina can
Nb : aux = auxiliary
