Gerund adalah kata kerja yang berfungsi sebagai kata benda.
Bentuk umum :

Gerund dapat digunakan sebagai :
1. Subject
Example : - Walking in the morning is good for healthy.
- Studying hard is student’s duty.
2. Object
Example : - I like swimming .
- I like playing football.
3. Predicate complement
Example : - My hobby is singing.
- Her hobby is cooking.
4. After preposition
Example : - He left without saying good bye.
5. Noun modifier
Example : - The reading book is on the table.
- Walking stick.
6. After possessive
Example : - She smiles at me. Her smiling makes me happy.
Verb dan Expression yang umum diikuti oleh gerund adalah :

Deny, enjoy, escape, finish, forgive, imagine, keep, mind, prevent, postpone, practice, propose, quit, resist, risk, understand, adjust to, look forward to, object to, feel like, can’t help, can’t stand, it’s no use, it’s no good, become accustomed to, become used to, be used/accustomed to, etc. |
